The Institute looks to accelerate progress towards disease elimination to alleviate suffering and improve human lives. Its mission is to make a distinctive contribution and materially help advance global thinking and progress towards disease elimination and to develop local, regional and endemic country capabilities and capacity.
GLIDE will initially focus on a small number of diseases that can be eliminated nationally or regionally – polio, malaria, river blindness and lymphatic filariasis – but remains opening to considering other possible candidates over time where we can demonstrate where we can add value.
The Institute will take an interdisciplinary approach across three areas of impact:
Championing awareness and engagement
Serve as a leading advocate and convener for the disease elimination cause in the region, in affected countries, and globally.
Advancing elimination strategy development
Serve as a catalyst in the creation and execution of country disease elimination strategies and plans.
Innovating delivery systems and tools
Serve as a thought leader by developing and improving tools and systems for disease elimination.
