Winning this award is incredibly meaningful to me. The award not only recognizes my efforts as a driver but also highlights the collective impact of reaching remote communities, emphasizing the importance of community outreach and reinforcing my journey from driver to a contributor in healthcare.
He played a vital role in Kenya’s COVID-19 response, setting up the first Mobile Vaccination Clinic truck. Launched by Amref Health Africa in partnership with the Ministry of Health and AstraZeneca, this initiative brings vaccines closer to remote, difficult-to-reach communities, exemplifying what it means to reach the last mile. Since this effort began, he has traversed Kenya, Rwanda, and Zanzibar, covering nearly 32,000 kilometers.
Kimemia’s role extends beyond driving the Mobile Vaccination Clinic. He actively engages in community outreach and awareness efforts, leveraging a megaphone or public address system and using his humor and good nature to drive more people to get their COVID-19 vaccinations. Kimemia’s journey in healthcare began long before the pandemic, where his work as a driver put him on the frontlines of health emergencies. Recognizing the need to further serve his community, he pursued additional health courses, enhancing his ability to provide critical care.
